Pattern Dance 1: Argentine Tango
- We have several Lorellos in this event, they are siblings of Ian Lorello who skates in Senior Ice Dance with Isabella Cannuscio
- I love the wide age range you get at the Novice level; I believe we had pre-teens through collegiates in last year's Novice Dance Event
- Last year this event was won by Michael & Rachel Parsons, who will compete in the Junior event this year
- The 1st pattern is the Argentine Tango while the 2nd is the Starlight Waltz, I believe there is one latin and one smooth style each year
1) Whitney Miller & Kyle MacMillan
- This team looks very much on the young end of Novice
- They are nice and smooth, with good speed
- Good job of maintaining the flow throughout
- The fabric is a little distracting flowing throughout
- The costumes didn't scream latin to me
2) Meara Lorello & William Dean
- This team looks to be on the older end of the Novice spectrum
- I LOVE "Hernando's Hideaway"
- These costumes are a little dull to me, I'd love a splash of color
- Good body carriage and posture
- He is definitely the star of this dance, I love his facial expressions, he's very coy
- I love their coach's fur coat!
3) Madison George & Brad Kleffman
- I'm obsessed with her costume, she looks very mature and they look very polished together
- They are attacking this opening sequence like nobody's business
- I had my eye on them during warm-up and they're not disappointing so far
- They have a great intensity about them
- They could use more speed, a little faster push
- Very nice extended leg line
- Good deep lunge
- They should be pleased with that, it was a nice piece
4) Lauren Leonesio & Dustin Perini
- They are very stiff in their upper bodies, I appreciate the posture, but I'd really like a little more expression in the upper body
- They had a nice mature look to them
- She reminds me a lot of Alexandra Paul from Canada
5) Holly Moore & Daniel Klaber
- Who doesn't love a good "Le Jazz Hot" number?
- They seemed like they had a little bobble, or missed connection there at the beginning
- I love the sharpness of her arms and the expressiveness of their upper bodies
- Good control of the bodies, she has a lovely leg line
- Nice spin into a crisp ending pose
6) Chloe Rose Lewis & Logan Bye
- Do they get points for cuteness, please?
- They actually have fantastic carriage for their age and size, she is 11 but I didn't catch his age
- This team is perfectly matched, their leg lines are nearly identical
- I feel weird saying this, but good hip action as well
- I love that her costume is age appropriate and she's not dressing as if she were 18
- Very nice piece!
7) Sierra Chadwick & Logan Martin
- They have a lot of speed which is great, but I'd love more extension in the legs and more toe point
- I wish they'd use their faces more, they look terrified
- Eyes up and show you're having fun out there!
8) Karen Tong & David Cruikshank
- At 17 and 18, this team is on the older end of the Novice Spectrum
- Like the other team in all black, I wish they had a little pop of color
- This is moving very slowly and I'd like to see a more extended leg
- That needed more of a button ending to close it out
9) Rebecca Lucas & Yan Kazansky
- Good flow over the ice
- Show us something on your faces please!
- He extends his leg a little higher than she does sometimes
- There is no attack in this piece at all
- Fine job technically, but no passion
10) Hannah Pfeifer & Grant Lorello
- Grant looks a lot like a skinnier Ian
- This a very tall team
- They need to really extend that leg line and take advantage of their height, I'm seeing a lot of bent knees and unpointed feet
- This team too needs a lot more fire in their performance
- He is really bending at his waist
- That coach in the fur is everywhere!
11) Hannah Rosinski & Jacob Jaffe
- Interesting music selection, overdone sure, but different from the rest in the field
- I love her dress!
- Hers is the best dress of the event thus far, subtle pop of color
- Really nice long leg line, well matched and good extension
- Good use of the arms, but I'd like to see more on the face
- I like her simple ponytail
- Nice speed and flow, that should score well

12) Stacey Siddon & Jarred Weiss
- This is one of the older teams in this event, the funny thing about Novice is that you have 11 year olds against 19 year olds
- He is so much taller than her that he has to sacrifice his posture in close holds
- That was a solid performance, but left a lot to be desired in terms of extension and posture

Pattern Dance 2: Starlight Waltz
1) Sierra Chadwick & Alexander Martin
- Normally I hate hearing the same music for all teams, but in the case of such youngsters, it makes it easier to compare them
- Nice leg swing and great body carriage
- This piece suits their personalities more than the Argentine...I have a feeling I'm going to say that a lot in the next hour
- I'd like to see more fluidity in her upper body

2) Karen Tong & David Cruikshank
- They are at the bottom after the Argentine Tango, I'd love to see them go all out and really let it fly here
- Good posture and flow, one little slip
- They have a nice quality about them, but they just seem a little too tentative out there, I'd like to see more competitive fire

3) Rebecca Lucas & Yan Kazansky
- I kind of love this costume, I could do without the loose fabric on the shoulder but I love the colors and the movement
- I love his white shirt, it softens up the pice
- Great speed and flow, they are very light on their feet
- This piece suits them so much better than the Argentine Tango did
- She totally lost her facial expression when she hit her final pose, you must stay in character until you leave the ice

4) Hannah Pfeifer & Grant Lorello
- I'm loving this yellow dress on her, she looks like Belle
- I think there are some nerves there, weren't quite sure which way to face
- She slipped a little bit and got behind him at the beginning, but they save it!
- She has a very fluid upper body, but he is much too rigid
- He looks as though he may have just gone through a growth spurt and hasn't yet grown into his limbs

5) Hannah Rosinski & Jacob Jaffe
- This team has the perfect ice dance look, they are older than a lot of junior teams
- They have great carriage
- I love that she uses her head as an extension of the movement
- They have the makings of a great team, we'll see what happens if they move up to the Junior level next year
- I have my eye on this team, they seem like a team that can really come on strong in the free dance
- Scores took forever, they were clearly reviewing some aspect of the pattern

6) Stacey Siddon & Jared Weiss
- This team is really distracting, no fault of their own, because they are so similar in height
- They do have really good speed
- Nice job in those little hop turns
- They have great potential if she can grow a little more and if he can stop growing, unfortunate as it may be

7) Whitney Miller & Kyle MacMillan
- These two are your leaders after the Argentine, can they hold on? I love her coral colored dress, it flows nicely and he looks so dapper in tails
- Their speed is so great, I can't get over how fast they skate
- They are really young and I'd rather see the Novice title go to a really young team as they have the most potential for future success

- I just love him, his presence and the look on his face is just fantastic!
- Good skate from them, but really slow compared to Miller & MacMillan

- Really good flow, the wind is blowing his hair all around
- He seems to be looking down at the ice and all around, everywhere but at her
- They kind of look scared to death out there
- Yet another team to totally break character after the final pose, can't have that
- They are not happy with these scores

10) Lauren Leonesio & Dustin Perini
- They are very blank-faced, smile, be happy!
- I like to watch skaters that I can tell that they love to skate
- It seems like he is leading a little too hard, almost dragging her
- The pace and speed of that whole dance seemed a little wonky to me
- love the cummerbund!

11) Holly Moore & Daniel Klaber
- Lovely speed and glide across the ice
- They are really deep into their knees
- I love her facial expressions, she looks very Old Hollywood
- Great arm carriage
- And they maintain character until they leave the ice, Bravo!

12) Chloe Lewis & Logan Bye
- 11 and 14 and they're the same size, they are just darling
- I can't wait to see their free dance and how they do lifts
- That one arm rotational lift was beautiful
- They have amazing control of their bodies for such youngsters
- I think they'll be a team to watch in the upcoming year
- Long wait on scores, must be looking closely at some aspect of the pattern
